Why Is Liquor Liability Insurance Important?
Businesses that sell or serve alcohol can face claims when an intoxicated patron later injures someone or damages property. General liability policies may exclude or restrict liquor-related claims when the insured is in the business of serving alcohol.
The goal is not simply to purchase a policy with the lowest premium. It is to understand the exposures involved and select insurance that fits the individual, property, vehicle, or business as closely as possible.
Liquor Liability Insurance Coverage Options
The appropriate coverage depends on the specific situation. Options may include some of the following protections.
Liquor Liability Coverage
Liquor liability may help with certain covered bodily injury or property damage claims arising from the sale or service of alcoholic beverages.
Assault and Battery Coverage
Bars, nightclubs, and other establishments should review assault and battery exclusions or available coverage because alcohol-related incidents can involve fights or security events.
Defense Costs
A liquor liability policy may help with eligible legal defense costs for covered claims, subject to policy terms and limits.
Special Events and Catering
Businesses serving alcohol away from their regular premises should verify whether off-site events and catering operations are included.
